Found a doll transformation on magical girl reina マジカル少女レイナ volume 5 nightmare of doll shop, since it is a children book it lacks of images (really where are the mangas with doll transformation?) first girl of first link turns into a doll on second link.

I saw ep.1 as well recently.
Looking forward to when they get to that segment.
Other parts of the intro suggest that it'll happen.

I only read that part of the manga to a certain extent but do we see Rin and the other in the doll they were transferred into?

no since since the transformation is more like body swap only shows up rin and luvia mind controlled then illya assume they are in a situation like her (and then appear some toys sillhoute but only that) illya resisted the mind control that's why she was still conscious and because her high mana she could move so when she breaks their mind control they just return to their bodies dizzy.
