Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

Well, finally got around to it (in the process of looking for other clips). I've decided that rather than attempt to stick these in one of my other threads (since despite their general process themes, there really isn't as much shown as I'd like) - I'll just give them their own thread here.

Now for each one I'll give a bit of background - and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND checking out the actual DVDs for the full movies (some will be on netflix, others are subtitled imports) - they may not all be Citizen Kane, but they're all very entertaining flicks.

That said, some of them (I'll note individually as I post them) are extremely graphic and viewer discretion is advised.

For some reason I'm having some issues getting the subs to show up - if anyone has dvdshrink tips, I could use the advice re: partial rips. I'll be frank though, you're not really missing too much important dialog in any of these clips ;p

First up, we'll go with a low-budget ball-breaker "Meatball Machine" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0820111/). I would term this tf a human to machine TF (of a sort) - or good to evil to put it another way. Fairly graphic in parts - and admittedly with more time I could probably edit it a little shorter. Oh well.

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

Next I've got a bit from "10 Nights of Dreams" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0899224/) - really a rather bizarre anthology film mixing avant garde with traditional Japanese horror as well as some techno and anime clips (some segments are MUCH better than others - so the whole thing evens out a bit) - worth a rental at least just for a few of the bits.

This is the woman to pig TF I talked about on the TF board a few months back. Very disappointing overall - so much potential left unused - but worth a quick look for the hell of it.

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

Another one I've talked about repeatedly: Tokyo Gore Police (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183732/). Another very fun movie but incredibly graphic - not for the kiddies! I'll grant you it's all fake (a couple steps above Troma IMO), but still pretty wild - I'd call it Evil Dead/Evil Aliens level gore - but then Evil Dead didn't have a guy getting his dick bitten off and growing a cannon to replace it....Evil Aliens is a little closer ;p (maybe Undead as well - need to watch that one again too).

This is a clip from the middle - interesting visit to a truly messed up fetish club. Again, I highly recommend checking out the DVD on netflix (or even xbox live movies) - or just buying it. I haven't even ripped the excellent scenes with a quad amputee with samurai swords or machine guns for limbs or the school girl squirting acid from her breasts and melting another cop.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TW0T95I4

BTW, any feedback on these - quality, etc - is appreciated (I already mentioned the subs issue).

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

The last clip for tonight is from Survive Style 5+ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430651/). Not sure it's worth trying to describe the plot (there isn't one - just a bunch of meandering, intersecting characters in some incredibly bizarre situations - including Tadanobou Asano and Vinnie Jones.

I highly recommend checking out the complete film if you have the chance (and a region-free player - it's only on DVD in the UK and Japan - subtitled too) - this really is an amazing film visually - and thematically too - even if it takes some getting used to.

This clip finds Asano returning home from burying his wife (whom he's already killed and buried a couple times in the film ) - naturally both women you'll see in this clip are....his wife.

Not so much process...but something....

Another one I completely forgot about - quickie since it's just a trailer I had on my hd.

A rather apt title, IIRC the literal translation is "Woman Transformation" or something along those lines. A horror flick with some Japanese folk-lore related tfs (some bits shown in the trailer, but I'm not too familiar with the details). An archive search on twitchfilm.net will probably bring up more details if anyone's interested. Not sure if it ever had a subtitled dvd release or not.

Thanks for the feedback. I need comments from folks here to let me know if anyone is actually interested in clips like this or if I'm wasting my evenings after work ripping stuff nobody wants to see.

Future clips may include bits from "The Great Yokai War", "Dororo" and others - just need to rewatch several movies and parse 'em a bit to see how much is worth pulling.

If this isn't process-heavy enough for anyone, I can stop. No issues. I have a few other more process heavy clips from other films to pull for my other clip threads. Scheduled...pending...

No idea. MM = Morning Musume? She looks vaguely familiar (almost certainly jpop related) but I can't recognize her.

They are definitely worth your time, and thank you for your time. And since this is the "everything else" board, please feel free to post any male transformations you find as well. Japanese films are a rather unexplored field for TF enthusiasts, so thank you for your efforts in this area.

Well, I thought they were interesting. Especially the Tokyo gorn one. Sickening in a way, but friends who like those Japanese blood-fountain films have kind of inoculated me against what I consider its low points. It was certainly creative, and that's what counts. Great find!

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

Ok.....when Takashi "Ichii the Killer" Miike makes a kids film, you know something's up with it. (Actually aside from this one, he did previously do "Zebraman" which I've heard is really good and I need to check out, as well as the forthcoming - playing fests right now - "Yatterman" live action remake).

That said, this one kinda walks an awkward line - on the one hand the protagonist is a little young for most of us to identify with, and on the other hand, for a live-action kids movie (even in Japan), it's got some pretty disturbing images. A little long too.

Overall good stuff though - some folks have posted youtube clips of this before but these should be better quality - and now that it's on US dvd (mine's a HK release), I'd recommend giving it at least a rental for a fun, colorful, adventure - "The Great Yokai War"

And since you guys said you don't mind male tfs here as well, I think there's one in this batch, and probably a few more in some future movie rips.

Still not working to rip w/ subs, but oh well.

A few clips here:

1. Male Yokai merged with motorcycle and turned evil.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=34134P1U

2. Long neck yokai (can't remember name of creature).

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5A3JLDVZ

3. Yokai council scene - lots of interesting yokai on display (another big group scene at the end of the film that I'm not ripping). Wish we saw more of the cat girl.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GAFVO8D9

4. Very brief clothing transformation.

Which one? The big group scene? That was probably longer than it needed to be, but I just wanted to show them all - including the before shot of the River Princess. Nothing special happening other than various discussion about needing to fight the bad guy and everyone bowing out.

Still can't figure out how to rip subs with dvdshrink - seems like it would be automatic but that might only be for ripping the entire film.

Ok....this film has a mixture of clips (and it's Japanese), so I'm just sticking them all here for simplicity's sake.

I also had the brilliant idea to rip some screen shots - so you can see if you like it ahead of time ;p

A nice little adaptation of the Osamu Tezuka manga - a little heavy on the CGI but fairly original story - Dororo.

Clip 1 - demon fight - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RPAMQNMA

Clip 2 - demon fight - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7MQSPPPD

Clip 3 - female TF to demon - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U0TWJZ9A

Clip 4 - demon fight - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3XLQBB8P

Clip 5 - male tf to demon - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9MJT6RBY

Too lazy to write a summary but this review sums up the general gist ;p - http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/dororo-review/

Another strictly Japanese film - so here it goes.

A j-horror movie about hair....hair extensions: "Exte: Hair Extensions".

Not sure why we can't just get a good hair growth scene that isn't so disturbing (most of the "really good" hair growth scenes in this movie are from a corpse(!)). Why can't someone make a movie with some nice, cute bimbo tf scenes with lots of hair growth/curling, etc???

Oh yeah, and some of the child abuse subtext undertones make the movie really disturbing. http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/exte-review/

Death by hair - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R6FKNWQU

Extreme hair growth (and death) - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HDWEO39C

Still, it's a little more original than some recent j-horror out there. I'll be listing my R3 HK dvd on ebay tonight if anyone's interested.

I actually liked the part where her hair all retracted into her head the most in that one. Kinda reminded me of how some TFs are described in stories of hair receding before being replaced with something else. But the death parts, not so much.

Just came across a trailer for an upcoming Japanese tv show - The Ancient Dogoo Girl.

http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/mach...ancie#extended

Here's hoping it makes some appearances on youtube or even US dvd eventually. I counted several different process bits (even if a bit cheap - a lot more than the normal US show) and pretty fun overall. By the same production team as some of the other crazy effects movies I've posted here before.

Also, I should have some more clips up here in a few days hopefully.

Yeah, I take what I can get. The entire movie has a very dry humor feel and could have been a lot better (although most of the documentary clips interviewing him and the folks around him are pretty good) - a lot of potential if they had used some actual interesting kaiju designs (granted the ones they do use are "unique") - but there was so much room for improvement. And the end is just....out there...not unlike a few other experimental Japanese films I've seen.

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

If you see only one Japanese seafood-themed pro-wrestling movie this year, watch "Oh, My Zombie Mermaid." (If, however you want to see a second one, I strongly recommend "The Calamari Wrestler")

Actually, the Zombie isn't a mermaid and the mermaid isn't a zombie - although both are somewhat prominently featured. The English title is a little weird given that the Japanese title is pretty self-evident in itself - "Ah, House of Wrestling."

That said, it's a very entertaining flick featuring a bunch of actual Japanese wrestlers - with better production values in general than you'd probably expect given some of the previous clips I've posted. However, it is very, very disappointing that the final form of the mermaid (which is shown gradually transforming(!) over the course of the movie) is only seen from a distance. I guess they didn't have the money for a nice close-up of a standard mermaid body after all the weird prosthetics they used for the nasty version :(

Oh well - now that I've figured out how to use virtualdub properly you only have to d/l one clip instead of 6.

Re: Really Bizarre Japanese Films (clips)

Still not really sure why I didn't post this clip before now...I've seen it enough times.

Anyhoo, a little general weirdness from Hideaki Anno's (Neon Genesis Evangelion) live-action feature adaptation of "Cutie Honey".

We've got some hair growth, some multiple limbs, even a little skinning, etc - and it's a little long at the end because I decided to leave in the clothing-change - such as it is.

This film has a few other bits and pieces here and there and is pretty fun overall. Just d/l some episodes of the live-action tv show as well (subbed) so I'll have to see if there's anything good there too.

BTW, you guys got lucky this time because apparently I ripped the dub track rather than the unsubbed Japanese.

Finally got the UK dvd of VGvsFG today. Robogeisha still isn't out on subbed DVD.

Not bad overall, general weirdness - but sadly lacking in the really *bizarre* - thinking Tokyo Gore Police transformations. Fun enough, a little crazy, but worth a couple of bucks or a rental if you have the chance. I think the US dvd will be out pretty soon. Nothing really worth ripping for this thread though.

I mentioned the new Takashi Miike adaptation of the Yatterman anime once before in this thread (never posted any pics though).

A few trailers here - http://twitchfilm.net/news/2009/02/c...-yatterman.php

Really, if you've seen Hideaki Anno's live-action adaptation of "Cutie Honey" - you can imagine something kinda similar (CGI is a little tighter here)....but I'd say it's really a few notches higher on the weird scale. I guess part of what makes it really strange is that it's REALLY close to the original anime in terms of overall content and stylings from what I understand including really bizarre self-referential humor, weird adult jokes totally inappropriate for younger viewers (the anime was from the 70s), etc.

A selection of reviews here (http://twitchfilm.net/reviews/2009/0...-yatterman.php) - see the bottom of the first review for more links.

Of course, it's more than worth the $15 I paid to import the HK release (came out on 4/30) just for seeing the *smoking* Kyoko Fukada in a hot leather outfit for 95% of the entire movie (minus the scenes where she's either in a bath or a wedding gown ;p).

Keeping in mind of course that Kyoko was also one of the two lead actresses in the brilliantly well made and truly funny gothic lolita meets biker girl comedy "Kamikaze Girls" - I can't recommend that one enough!!!

No process in this flick :( - might rip the clip of the mecha bridesmaid firing "titty missiles" though ;p

Another one:

Gothic and Lolita Psycho

Two trailers: http://twitchfilm.net/news/2010/05/t...-psycho-tr.php

First one is the real one, second one is kinda a joke/spoof trailer.

Looks interesting (probably no process), but this is coming from the director who did Onechanbara (the Zombie Cowgirl one...which didn't review so well) - although effects are by guys from TGP and Machine Girl, etc.

Always nice to see more Gothic Lolita...like I said the only *mainstream* film I've seen so far is "Kamikaze Girls" - about to order the UK R2 2 disc set to accompany my HK version - but sadly, I don't think this is going to quite match that for overall quality.

Man this is one of the stranger movies Kyoko-chan has been in. At least its not a love drama movie like she normally does. Shame she doesn't sing more (she plays the piano as her musical skill for her Idol status) cause she has a pretty singing voice.

Only one real process scene - but it is a pretty cool one. Lots of great little scenes throughout the film showing the seams on her legs/arms/neck as well as the air valve in her belly button. Also some nice implications of transparency/thin skin, etc.

Highly recommend this movie overall - moving with some great elements.

That was certainly unique. Thanks for uploading it. :)

My favorite still has to be the chick turning into a chair. But the 'airdoll' is starting to become a nice second.

Yes, the chair TF is still by far one of the most bizarre (and strangely hot) transformations I've ever seen. I doubt it'll ever be topped.

Oh, that's from the movie "Tokyo!" but I don't believe it was actually posted in this thread.

I might be able to find it someplace though, or upload it if I can't.

edit: the scene was deleted from youtube so here's the upload.
