Image - Manga Color.

2 Attachment(s)
Yeah I'm bored so I decided to do a quick color from this Hell Teacher Nube manga Breast Expansion. I have the original and the colored attached.

Tell me what you think although I am still somewhat working on it. I still need to put in some light and color in the clothes, but I think it is coming out pretty well.

Or maybe if anyone as any ideas of something else I could color... Well I will have to see it. ^_^

transfnight 06-02-2005 12:55 PM

Don't give up, that is pretty cool

mr small 06-02-2005 02:43 PM

Just like M & Ms, BE is better in color. (Well not always) Good work.

wolfman-al 06-02-2005 03:23 PM

Nice! Is there more of that?

Sutibaru 06-03-2005 04:06 AM

More

Here is the rest of the scene from the manga. It consists of a plant growth powder or something. I probably should try translating it.

Another Color

And here is a color that I worked on a while ago of the Sesou manga.

I really do not know what color her hair and clothes are supposed to be. If anyone knows, tell me!

transfnight 06-03-2005 08:45 AM

Like I siad before, don't give up.

I don't know if it this the right color, but that's fine for me

milkfish987 06-03-2005 08:56 AM

Spectacular work! Thank you for the attachments!!!

Sutibaru 06-03-2005 12:56 PM

Still More Work

Yeah I am going to work more on these as well as some bran new others.

SoylentOrange 06-03-2005 03:59 PM

The great thing about coloring black and white stuff is that you pretty much get to dictate the colors. Red hair, blue dress? Works for me! :D

MrOriginal 06-03-2005 10:03 PM

You're one of those fang dangled gifted people aren't you :P

Lovely work on the colouring, if you could colour all sorts of black and white mangas, well imagine how cool that would be :) (If it's a hobby you enjoy that is) All I need now, is for them to be bloody translated :(

Lorekeep could be the home to all sorts of translated, coloured mangas (need to set up a team of people hehe) :D

Keep up the sweet work,
MrOriginal

Tombman13 06-04-2005 02:30 PM

For the love that is all BE keep em coming.

mr small 06-04-2005 04:34 PM

I agree with everyone, keep up the good work. I know how hard just coloring is. I tried to color a black and white page before, but then I realized that when God was giving out artistic talent, I was out back taking a wiz . . . and then draged off into the woods by hungry wolves. (or something like that)

Sutibaru 06-04-2005 05:50 PM

Working some more.

Hehe. Thanks for the comments. I will be working on the Hell Teacher one some more. But with the Seisou one, I really do not know what color of hair and clothes she should have.

Any ideas?

Amazeroth 06-05-2005 02:56 PM

Hm, i think it a great coloring. But where i can find this comic complete?

Sutibaru 06-05-2005 03:00 PM

Find.

I have the whole volume of Hell Teacher. But I am not sure if I have the whole Seisou on my computer. Try searching the web or use a program like eMule.

Amazeroth 06-06-2005 12:52 PM

Thanks, but in Shareaza i dosn't find it.

Sutibaru 06-11-2005 11:32 AM

Half Done

Well I am now about half-way done with the coloring of the pages. But right now I am putting in english dialogue. It will not be an exact translation, but what I think what they are saying.

Plus if anyone has any idea what they are saying, feel free to comment.

Sutibaru 06-13-2005 04:10 AM

About half Done

Alright here is a about half done version. I have some text dubbed in and more characters colored. I will try to finish this baby within a few days.

Istmael 06-13-2005 11:42 AM

Good stuff Sutibaru...can't wait to see the finished piece!

Gas75 06-14-2005 11:57 AM

Usually I like b/w mangas... But this colored work is fine! ;-)

Sutibaru 06-15-2005 07:12 AM

B/W Manga

Yes I know how most manga is made with plain black and white inks. I respect that.

But I am doing this do enhance the image. Although it was pretty good in the beginning.

tsokei 06-15-2005 09:13 AM

Awesome! Keep up the good work! I would help on the translation, but I only know a little japanese, and have even less time. >_<
It's wierd because yeah, Seisou is all in japanese (the only word that isn't just a sound is mumune, which I have no idea what it means- it might also be a sound...), but Hell Teacher looks like all the characters are speaking chinese, and yet the sounds are still japanese. I wonder if it's a translation?
Anyway, just thought I'd share those thoughts- if anyone really wants to know what something in japanese says, you can always post a new thread about it and I might see it.

Sutibaru 06-15-2005 11:54 AM

Translation

I am pretty sure that Hell Teacher is not chinese, but the old traditional form of japanese characters. These are a whole lot more difficult to translate because there are so many of them.

Thanks though.

Sutibaru 06-19-2005 08:04 AM

Seisou

Okay now I have downloaded the whole Seisou manga and I know what colors to use on the chick.

I will be working on that one more now.

I believe this is Chinese, though the manga is not. I have seen many translations of Japanese works which were apparently published (or perhaps pirated in some cases) in Taiwan or Hong Kong; this certainly seems to be one of those. These outlying regions still use many of the older forms of Chinese characters, while the PRC itself has stylized a lot of them in their modern writing. (The text is pretty definitely not Japanese, as there are no kana whatsoever in it.)

Sutibaru 06-21-2005 07:38 AM

Kanji

Okay. We both can agree with this. The text are simply Kanji which defines as Chinese characters used in Japan.Kanji are one of the five character sets used in the modern Japanese writing system, the other four being hiragana, katakana, the Roman alphabet (rōmaji), and Arabic numerals.

The usual japanese characters I see are Hiragana which seemed to be used for the sound effects.

The sound effects in kana show that this was all originally in Japanese: the publisher of your copy of the manga translated all the word balloons into the local Chinese (I'm guessing it's Taiwanese dialect and characters). The fact that your images are so clean suggests that the manga was legitimately republished and translated. I've seen some, which were probably pirated, where the artwork is somewhat murky and blurry, as if the parties involved in translating and re-releasing the manga were working from photocopies...

Publishers in the U.S. who have been translating manga have tried dealing with the kana by translating all the sound effects as well, but sometimes the characters are integrated into the drawings and are very difficult to replace. Early on in the business of releasing translations, the publishers would sometimes actually have someone re-draw those parts of the panel; but that's really time-consuming and, with the flood of translations appearing nowadays, no one would be able to keep up. Often what's done now is to replace only the smaller words and add footnotes to explain the sound effects that are too hard to replace. Where footnotes would take up too much room on the pages (like with, say, Excel Saga), the explanation of the sound effects and such are listed at the back of the compilation book.

Oh, and just to get back to the proper topic, your color work does look good on that completed large panel.

Sutibaru 06-21-2005 07:32 PM

Hope to straighten this out.

As I said above, the dialect in the word bubbles are Kanji which is literally Chinese dialect that is used in Japan. That is all I know about it... I have yet to find or see a version in a more easy Japanese dialect to translate.

Talking about it being clean images, if you are talking about the colored one, I used Adobe Photoshop to clean it up. It was originally a .jpg and was quite blurry and grainy.

And finally, thank you. I will probably start coloring more of this sequence and put more highlighting and shading where needed.

That is NOT Japanese. It's definetely Chinese. And no, it's not old Kanji that used to be used in Japan centuries ago. This is a younger audienced aimed manga, therefore none of the kids would even be able to read it were.

As was stated before, there is no kata-kana or hira-gana in any of the word bubbles. Also in books aimed at this age, the more complex kanji that kids might not know would have furi-gana printed above it to guide them in the pronounciation of the word.

Now if you meant that Hell Teacher Nube was originaly created by a Japanese guy in Japan, then yes, it is/was.

Sutibaru 06-22-2005 08:09 AM

Finish This

I you would read what I have been writing, buddy, I said it was Chinese dialect! I am not saying that this is the pure Japanese version of the manga. All I am saying is the dialogue is Kanji. In fact here is the direct quote from the link lower.

"Kanji (漢字, literally "characters from Han China"; see also Han Chinese) are Chinese characters used in Japanese. Kanji are one of the five character sets used in the modern Japanese writing system, the other four being hiragana, katakana, the Roman alphabet (rōmaji), and Arabic numerals."

It makes sense to call it Kanji, when I already translated a word bubble using Kanji characters.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanji

Check that link out. That is the link where I used the characters to translate some dialogue from the manga. Or maybe Wikipedia encyclopedia is wrong.

Anime

I noticed this manga series had an anime show based on it. Does anyone know if this plant BE occurs in it? It'd definetely be worth checking, if anyone has the time.

I have the Thai-verison so I can translate for you guys. I only translated the BE part, the rest isn't so important. If you guy want a translation for the rest I'll gladly do the rest.

(I was in a rush so sorry for the sloppy work). ^^''

Sutibaru 02-24-2006 12:11 PM

Thanks. The thai version is the one that I posted at the beginning there.
At least I know what they say now. I might photoshop it so that it looks more neat. + finish coloring it

It is up to you, but possibly can you tranlate other chapters such as the chapter where a ghost mouth appears on the back of her head?
Or at least the good part where she was about to burst? (it's in thai also)

It is thai right?
What disturbs you about it? I suppose some people think it would be strange with a mouth on the back of her head.
Thanks anyhow. The one that disturbs me is the fat ghost. ;_;

No, thats definately not thai, looks like some sort of chinese to me. I'll just look up my own thai copies and translate from there. Okay, I'll start once I find some time (can't really remember where I put Volume 13 so I'm gonna have to dig in a few old books). LOL, that fat one? Yeah, thats one ghost I wouldn't like never to encounter..

Agent M 02-24-2006 09:02 PM

I think you did a great job, and the colours suit her.

It was. I was really trying to force the sarcasm by being extra precise. I guess it still only sort of came across. That's the internets for you.
