A recent plotline in the comics has Jenika, a human female ninja and turtle ally, mortally wounded. After receiving an emergency blood transfusion from Leonardo, she transforms into a mutant turtle herself and becomes their 5th member. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/07...female-turtle/

i was planning to mention this when issue 96 came out. i love that this was planned years ago. i hope she does great.

I know saying this will probably get me murdered, but it might have been a cool shake-up in the TMNT universe if Leonardo was killed (to be eventually resurrected later on) around the same time Jennika was mutated into a mutant turtle, so she could assume leadership of the team until Leo returned a couple of years down the line.
