Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Well, I come across a lot of movie stuff - mostly, but not always at Twitchfilm.com that I enjoy sharing here. Figured it'd make more sense to create a new thread for the upcoming films that *aren't* Japanese ;p

I know there are Nightbreed fans here (including myself) - apparently there is a 155 minute cut of the flick hovering around the netherworlds:

http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/05/c...-cabal-cut.php

Sadly, most of us probably won't be able to see it anytime soon thanks to copyright issues, but the potential is there.

----------

Next, something potentially very weird - "Branded". The poster shows a man with a cow's head, but that might just be metaphorical. The trailers are absolutely amazingly bizarre, but no visible TF as such.

Russian trailer: http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/05/r...he-mad-cow.php

English language trailer (different): http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/05/s...lt-branded.php

Now this upcoming Chinese flick - "Painted Skin II" has some very good process-type clips in the trailer...the final version will probably have considerably more...

A new english-subbed trailer for "Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack" by Junji Ito.

http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/08/u...ish-attack.php

Pretty weird looking.

Here's a longer, non-subbed PV for it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjm-DXtyEr4

Some comments I've read have mentioned that this is associated with the "World God Only Knows" series and there are at least a few hints at bizarre TFs - the full OVA appears to be available on youtube, but I'll probably order the UK dvd - out this week.

I read the manga. Provided it's the same, the monsters in the movie are mechanical legs and a bacteria. The bacteria bloats up living things and causes them to produce a gas. The legs then attach to a body and use the gas to power themselves. In the manga one girl gets infected with the bacteria and bloats up to huge proportions. Her mind is mostly gone by then, and later on she gets attached to a set of legs.

I don't see any hinted TFs here, just people being killed by mutant fish.

That sounds like some of the clips I've seen - even in the subbed trailer. Not sure how much process there is, but definitely some body-weirdness.

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Well "Branded" (see first post) apparently had a stealth release with no critic previews this week....and is apparently bad across the board.

That said, I'm still interested in the visuals shown in the trailers and described in some reviews...that and the apparent concept used by fast food companies in the film to make fatness/obesity the new "thin"....not sure how much is shown though.

I'll probably just wait and give it a netflix rental in a few months.

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Long break in posting on this thread - and I may come back with a few more additions.

First up though - just watched the nifty little "found footage" flick "Frankenstein's Army". I'd been looking forward to this from the info on Twitch for a long time and it's a nice little piece of work.

Lots of great, grotesque and creepy steampunk horror designs - seriously, it's like these guys looked at Big Daddy from Bioshock (say call him a 4 after the first appearance) and cranked the dial up to 11.

Sadly, no process and practically no female characters either - aside from a creepy cybernetic nurse (interesting but mostly covered) and this:

http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/image...78133438_2.jpg

Which is apparently Frankenstein's mom according to the credits. Unfortunately other than seeing her move and move her limbs a little, there's not much going on - but it's an interesting concept.

Didn't see anything in the trailer I just looked up in youtube (anything at all).

On a side note, just saw this brand new clip - inspired (or produced?) completely by Guillermo Del Toro:

Attack of the Werewolves aka Game of Werewolves aka Lobos de Arga

http://twitchfilm.com/2012/04/imagin...es-review.html

Finally got my hands on the UK Blu-ray. Not sure '"Shaun of the Dead" with Werewolves' is the most accurate description. It's pretty funny, but not to that level. (might just be that some of the jokes don't translate to subs as well).

Sooooo, excellent practical and CGI effects...sadly no attractive actresses. The entire village winds up transforming, and you have some brief female seconds - but they're all old women.

Oh well...worth a rental still.

Finally - Nightbreed: Directors Cut comes out next month. I think I may have missed the initial announcement, but this should be excellent. Figure I'll go for the LE on this one. Not sure if there'll be any more transformation, but we might get lucky with more monster-girl imagery too.

Still recommend reading the original "Cabal" novella it's based on as well - good piece of work all around.

I'm fairly certain it didn't even have a dvd release stateside (or one that went OOP years and years ago and is now ridiculously expensive) - I downloaded the low qual clips off youtube, but this'll be worth it I think.

Yeah, pretty sure there was a US VHS release...but I didn't start collecting till '98 - don't really count non-DVD releases (and in a lot of cases - pretty lousy DVD releases too).

Any movie where Brian Yuzna gets to play with his love of body horror/transformation is a fun trip. I swear someday I am going to run into him on a forum like this because almost every film he does has some sort of weird transformation thing going for it (He even wrote Honey, I Shrunk the Kids)

Wow....I guess if this one was a snake, it woulda bit me.

Looks like there were/are two new "Nukem High" flicks by Troma out.

Return to Nukem High Vol 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIhxM3AufYA - out on dvd/blu-ray but not on netflix yet :(

Return to Nukem High Vol 2 - hhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3TRIFJw384 - not out yet it looks like.

At the very least, it appears that both of these flicks have belly swelling scenes like the 80s classic "Class of Nukem High" as well as a variety of other bits and pieces - mostly of the more gory variety, but I figure they'll be worth a rental at least.

To be honest, I was disappointed on the whole with the processy bits in Poultrygeist as well, but it was worth a quick netflix/rental for some of the weirder moments.

At least the belly swellings in the trailer look a little better than the one in CoNeH 2.

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Just caught the trailer for "Late Phases" aka "Night of the Lone Wolf" on my netflix rental in front of "Starry Eyes":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJgXfzSYehk

[spoilers]

So I netflix'd this one too - particularly since the trailer hinted a female werewolf. Well...there are definitely female werewolves, since the villain intentionally "infects" several characters towards the end to draw suspicion away from himself - but we never actually see the women transforming (disappointing). That said, the actual transformation is a pretty good highlight overall. Not quite AWiL as far as practical effects, and more along the skin rippage format, but extremely well done for a low budget horror movie - the trailer shows a few quick shots, but most body parts are shown in good, bloody detail.

The werewolves themselves, seen in more detail after transformation, aren't necessarily as good or well handled, (folks in suits), but it still works pretty well.

While the concept is somewhat unique - blind vet fighting werewolves (after his guide dog is killed the first night) in a retirement community - he's got a month to prep for the next full moon. The plot (particularly towards the end) is a little spotty and uneven - although Nick Damici does an awesome job as a blind vietnam veteran for the entire pic!

Recommended rental!

Extremely early, but apparently a remake of "Jumanji" just got picked up. Will be interesting to see where they go with it this time....since it was already "remade" as "Zathura" for all intents and purposes.

That said, the board game concept is something I've fantasized about for years as a TF concept - ever since seeing the first one. I know how I'd design the flick ;p

Well, for Halloween, I watched Call Girl of Cthulhu.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwqJ9IXn4WU

Very fun little, low budget horror flick. Great messy, practical effects.

Surprisingly enough - there's a pretty good process bit (over multiple scenes) of corruption/monster-girl type stuff. Conceptually and visually more interesting than the one in Starry Eyes, even if the final version is significantly less sexy.

There's also some monster, bitey boobies on a porn star.

Fun overall, and the number of excellent Lovecraft references/gags they manage to cram into the entire plot is pretty tight overall.

Highly recommended!

Well, I hadn't come across any references to it in previous articles, but the full trailer of Terra Formars (live action) does appear to show some mutation/tfs including female insect tf/etc.

http://twitchfilm.com/2016/03/terra-...tay-where.html

Not sure how good it'll be on the whole - even as a Miike film, it'll probably kinda suck - but now I need to watch some more eps of the anime on crunchyroll to see if those bits are actually shown.

And yes...there is still the usual racist content argument as far as the original material - not getting into that here.

I've wondered for ages what the heck Terraformars was about, but was always turned off by the Man-Are-You-Serious? enemy designs. I was interested when I saw a statuette of a scientist lady with antenna, but I didn't realise how far the bug forms went.

Also wow they are not toning down that Manga-style everybody's going to die murders.

The manga for terraformars is pretty good though it's super violent and like a lot of characters u will like die and the cockroach designs are not racist since they are evolved cockroaches and are super beings that are huge and strong idk

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Like I said, not going to get into it here - plenty of discussion elsewhere - but I will try giving the anime another shot on crunchyroll over the next few weeks - just too busy with normal stuff to watch anything lately.

thrandrall 03-27-2016 05:58 PM

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Watched all the current eps of TerrorFormars on crunchyroll - only about 13 - so not the entire story - kinda stops partway through.

There's definitely some female tf-type stuff, partial bug-girls, etc in the anime - but really no tf shown. It'll be interesting to see how much is shown in the movie - since Miike did use some interesting (if kinda cheap) effects in flicks like The Great Yokai War (previously featured in some of my other threads). I'll at least be happy with some antenna/wings, but I don't know how much more than that will be shown.

thrandrall 05-15-2016 12:26 PM

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Possible bird-tfs/etc in "Interchange"? Only thing in the teaser appears to be a male tf, but don't know enough about the plot, etc to tell about others.

http://twitchfilm.com/2016/05/interc...ural-noir.html

On a side note, I have preordered the HK BR of Stephen Chow's "Mermaid" - clips have looked good and gotten some good graphics callouts - can't rip from BR on my machine, but I'll at least get some reference info.

Same order also has the original Stephen Chow "Chinese Odyssey" flick - (Journey to the West) from the 90s. I think it's supposed to have some process related material, but can't remember anything specific.

thrandrall 06-08-2016 04:54 PM

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Well, "Mermaid" has no process (doesn't go the way of "Splash") - but it's a lot of fun. Amazing CGI and effects - very realistic/lifelike for some of the designs.

Not quite as funny as Shaolin Soccer or Kung Fu Hustle, but still had some great gags.

Took too long, but I finally got around to checking out my BR of "Tale of Tales".

Been wanting to watch it for a long time, just needed the right moment.

Soooo, gorgeously filmed, but some odd tonal shifts (and obviously very dark thematically). Great acting too

Annnnnd....we get some insta-pregnancy expansion, AR (+ some hair growth), elements of AP as well. Even a bit of monster back to human transformation.

Recommended on the whole. Worth a netflix definitely (BR is pretty much barebones albeit gorgeous).

Re: Potentially (but not necessarily) process-y Upcoming Movie Thread (with clips)

Stumbled across a few maybes when looking up upcoming movies:

Feral

This one is 100% process material, but the extent as to which is unclear. Kids go into the woods, get bitten by a wolf, and turn into blood crazed monster-people. That's how rabies works, right?

Blood Hunters

Bit of a stretch, but this one is 28 days later except they never get out of the hospital. The main character's pregnancy is mysterious, which is usually a bad sign in horror movies, and the titular blood hunters are humanoid. Are they transformed people? The trailer might have a shot of one of them tearing out of a cocoon. This is a very maybe kinda film.

Recall

And on the list of super maybes is Recall. Bunch of friends go camping when they, along with people all over the globe, are abducted by aliens. And then the next morning they come back... and the rest of humanity has decided the abducted need to be wiped out. Are they doppelgangers placed by the aliens? Who knows, but the director's done a lot of visual effects work, so it's unlikely that the movie is just going to be people floating into the sky.
