Desolate Jedi #1 (New Content!)

11 Attachment(s)
Hey there!

Over the past couple of months, I've been working with Lunate (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/lunate/) to develop a comic sequel to my Star Wars trilogy (Derelict Jedi, Genesis, & The Wild Side), and I'm happy to share the current results. :)

Set one month after the events of "The Wild Side", Jaina searches the Unknown Regions tirelessly for her missing husband, Jagged Fel. Aided by the intrepid R2-D2, aboard the late Mara Jade Skywalker's personal yacht, the Jade Shadow, the pair plot course after course in what increasingly feels like a vain endeavor. The strain of Jag's absence begins to wear on Jaina in more ways than the Jedi Master truly realizes...

And, as always, the disclaimer: Star Wars is the IP of George Lucas and Disney. I do not own anything in regards to Star Wars, and I'm in no way, shape, or form profiting from the IP. All characters, besides the one's created by me, are the property of George Lucas and Disney. This is simply fan fiction and fan art. Nothing official and nothing more. ;)

EDIT: All ten pages are now available!

Very nice! I've never really gotten into the Star Wars EU, but I have been enjoying your stories.

Thank you! I was fortunate enough to find a very talented artist to help bring my next batch of Star Wars tales to life. :)

I'm glad you like it so far!

Btw, even though the current EU has been rebranded as "Legends" (and thus, made non-canon), I still highly recommend reading the books. Huge library of amazing adventures. ;)

Yeah, I heard about how the entire Star Wars EU was suddenly made non-canon. While it means little to me, I sensed a disturbance in the Force, as if millions of Star Wars fans cried out in rage.

Haha, yep. Never thought I'd say it, but I wish Mr. Lucas was still in charge. Even though he held a dismissive attitude toward the EU, at least he largely left it alone. :p

Whoa, a little enthusiastc I see. lol

I'm flattered that you like my work (although keep in mind, I only commissioned the comics; I can't draw to save my life). Lunate deserves all the credit for creating the actual artwork. :)

And to answer your question, yes, there will definitely be more to come in both this current comic and in terms of future comics. For future comics, though, I may start asking for some donations from the community (since they're far from inexpensive, especially since the next comics will be double the size of Desolate Jedi #1).

Thrilled to meet another Star Wars fan, btw. I trust you've read some of the books? ;)

I said it over on FA, but I'll say it again here. This is excellent.

Also, I've seen some of Lunate's work before, but this series is definitely piquing my interest in the artist.

TF-Viewer, thanks! And thank you for all the faves over on FA. They're sincerely appreciated. ;)

Amahain, double-thanks to you as well! Lunate is definitely a superb artist, and his commission terms are actually rather generous considering the outstanding work he does. He was certainly a joy to work with, and I look forward to collab'ing with him again in the not too distant future. :D

I encourage everyone to take a look at his FA gallery and drop him a line even!

Oh? What kind of miniatures? D&D? Warhammer? Star Wars (either WotC or FFG)?

CryoVchriS: Your enthusiasm is killing me over here. ><

I'm sincerely pleased that you're enjoying the comic. :)

Cool! You're the first person to donate, and I sincerely appreciate it. ;)

Paypal: reavercommissions@yahoo.com

As for cost, well, this particular comic cost $265 to commission. The next comic will be much, much higher (given the greater length), between $590-700.

A lot of money, I know, but I think with donations, I can swing it. I'm putting in a TON of overtime at work too in an effort to ease the cost.

A taste of things to come.

Figured I'd post this here, since it's originally my thread (although since I'm under a new account here, I obviously cannot edit the title to reflect new content).

Anyway, the actual comic will follow shortly. Artwork is by Padmenvy (the original layout of the cover is courtesy of Lunate. I asked Padmenvy to elaborate on the original sketch, and this is the extraordinary result).

And, as someone suggested, here is the original trilogy that spawned these comics (so you can read up on the story if you're not sure what's going on).

Current Order of the story:

Derelict Jedi (Written Work)
Star Wars: Genesis (Written Work)
Star Wars: The Wild Side (Written Work)
Desolate Jedi #1 (Comic)
Desolate Jedi #2 (Comic) (Coming Soon)

Re: Desolate Jedi #1

Well, I'm killing this project yet again. Sorry. This time it's for "lack of artist", rather than lack of funds...ie, my artist has just up and vanished...with all the money I paid her to work on Desolate Jedi 2. Every attempt to make contact with her, across a variety of mediums and over the span of a month and a half, has failed.

Oh bother...I'm just not having any luck with artists and big projects.

Live and learn, I suppose.

That's really too bad. Hope it doesn't stop you from writing more at least in the future though!

Could you maybe dispute the transaction on Paypal or anything like that?

I put in a dispute today, but because I paid her via installments, only the latest payment is eligible for a dispute. So, I might be able to recoup ~$300 or so, but not everything (and I'm not really optimistic about the $300).

I don't quite understand what happened. It was going so well. She and I were in regular contact, she was showing me sketches, and promising to show more soon...and then she was gone. I waited a month. Nothing. Since I'd invested so much into her and comic, I decided to press the issue and fired off a few e-mails. Nothing. Tried a few more e-mails and notes later on, and gave a final attempt notice. Still, she said nothing. So, with the time I had left to dispute the latest payment down to 1 day, I decided I'd given all the rope I could.

I hope she's alright, and if she'd just given me some indication that something was wrong in RL, I would have been fine with that. But she gave me nothing, and so my benefit of the doubt faded. Sad.

But, that's life. If I don't get any of the money back, then I'll have just learned a painful lesson. That's all there is to it, really.

Re: Desolate Jedi #1

Whenever I make an artist commission, I pretty much assume I'm going to get screwed and take it as part of the risk. But these are small amounts of cash like $20-$80, which I could pretty much care less about. Finding a trustworthy, reliable artist for expensive projects is pretty rough, and I'm sure a lot of those guys who put a lot of money into these things (pixelmorpher, locofuria, zero forever come into mind) have had to build up business relationships and get screwed a few times.

Well, I hate lazy people or people who take advantage of others as much as the next guy, and I honestly hope you get your money back and hurt their credit somehow. Sorry to hear your first couple of attempts at this backfired on you - doesn't seem that common in this community; you were just unlucky that way perhaps.

If you'd like, I have a certain "someone" most here would know. And so happens to be open for commissions. ;)

Oh yeah? Well, if you want to PM me the details, I'll look them over. I can't afford to pay for an entire comic again, but maybe a page or two every now and again. : /

If I even decide to pick it up again, that is. It's beginning to feel like a cursed project :(. But, yeah, PM me and we'll see. Thanks.
