Now I dont know how to exactly communicate this idea over, but a wild guess would be that even though Spanish is the third-most spoken language in the world, but english is possibly more widely taught in many different countries. I might be out-dated but I think not everyone can gain access to the internet too easily in Latin America for example.

If you mean most widely spoken as in "most widely distributed amongst nations as a primary or secondary language", then English blows away everything else. But for pure population, nothing can compare to the number of Mandarin Chinese speakers.
