Convention questions

Have any of you made a stand at a convention? I'm asking that because I want to try my luck at the Montreal ComicCon to promote my first novel... but I've never done that before.

So, I was wondering if those who have could give a first-timer some tips to make it work.

Nah, I've only ever worked on staff. The only advice I could give would probably be to make sure there's always someone watching the booth (though you probably already knew that).

I too would like to hear about this because I might do similar for my movie to try to generate interest. I would love to hear the personal stories of those that have run booths at cons in addition to the tips for wandering_spirit. I believe personal stories would also be helpful for them.

Re: Convention questions

You DEFINITELY want someone you trust manning your booth if you go off to a panel or somesuch. I missed several potential customers at SizeCon because I was attending panels. Scidram was watching my booth to make sure nobody stole anything, but I hadn't talked to him about selling any of my stuff, so.

It also won't hurt to have a mailing list sign-up sheet, in case people are interested in what you might be doing in the future.

Is Square weird about potentially handling adult transactions?

I mean, you could always just put it up as "Artwork: OC, Artwork: Single Panel, Artwork: Multiple Pages" etc. and leave a cheap tablet with someone like Scidram (Attending Panels, See This Palooka for Pricing). :D

Given that I've done my project solo, I don't have anyone who could hold my seat if I have to go to the men's room. That'd be really problematic...

Well, you have t-minus 104 days to find someone. What's your first novel about?
