Lalola comes to China - "The Secret of Women"
 

Hello there,

A curious and quite an intriguing find from the guys on Metamorphose.org, a little explanation is need for what is quite a well rounded attempt at the familiar formula.

Recalling the Lalola franchise's international success in the late 2000's - originally the Argentinian telenovella concerning the gender bending hi-jink's of a cursed playboy and his nascent, feminine alter-ego - the license made its way around the world and even inspired a somewhat misbegotten American pilot in Eva Adams, as some here might recall.

Still, after some perusing, it seems that there is now a Chinese rendition of the now established formula in the context of east Asian culture and gender dynamics, albeit with a liberal inflection to these normally metropolitan narratives.

Still, along with the now recognized formula, the transformation is nicely realized without pushing convention too much. Also, the cursing scene is uniquely well done too - swordplay used to conjure and cast the spell affording a nicely compelling interpretation of the story :).

Thanks very much for pointing it out! It's a nice scene, though that "wobbly zoom" camera work actually made me a little nauseous.

Yeah, I liked the transformation itself, but what's up with that constantly zooming camera? It made me a little queasy too. I also wondered why the laugh track was going so crazy while the one lady was gracefully spinning around with the sword, doing the spell. In both cases I assume there's some cultural thing that would explain it. If those endless zooms have become a common part of Chinese TV, I feel sorry for TV viewers there. It's like trying to watch a show while you're riding a mechanical bull!

I'd love to find more about this and maybe English subtitles. Great tf though, and the 1st 4-5 episodes the new girl is in mens baggy clothes.

Yeah... the laugh track was weird too. I kept thinking that I must have had some other YouTube video going in a window that I'd forgotten to close.

With the lousy acting and the horrible laugh track, I kept thinking I was watching a Benny Hill skit.
