What Truly Terrifies You?

This thread is not for the faint of heart or stomach. Please, no pictures or graphic descriptions attached to replies. Think of this as a Therapy/Support Group thread.

I had a moment in my life years ago where I became so traumatized it still haunts my nightmares to this day. It is one thing to make jokes about Rule 34 and say there is something out there for everything, it is quite another to accidentally fall down that rabbit...hole and find something truly horrifying.

The problem is the process community runs into some of this stuff more often than not, living on the edge between body horror and just watching girls grow. Species 2, Cronenberg-esque fan fiction, etc. Maybe you were curious about a Blueberry Girl comic, only to find her exploding at the end.

No judgements here, this is me trying to find a place to get over my own trauma while also mildly curious about what others think is too far. Everyone has a breaking point, a line that you might even be afraid to think about. Yours might even be something as seemingly tame as "peeling an orange" porn or as horrifying as "peeling a person's skin like an orange" porn.

And this isn't about trying to find out what turns a person off. I don't care for Tarantino levels of foot fetish, but feet don't terrify me. I also scream when I watch a horror movie, but I'm not trying to get off on a slasher flick. This is looking at the realm of erotica material that has made you want to physically vomit or has you losing sleep over it years later.

I hope my curiosity doesn't take it too far like it sometimes does.

Anyway, I'll start off. About 25 years ago (yes, I'm an old woman) I was innocently browsing storyboards when I came across what looked like an interesting bit of erotica. This was before tags and lockouts on message boards were common. I won't go into details, but it involved a ray gun and...well, let's just say the end result was a very explicit bit of trypophobia porn. It included crude photoshopped images.

*shiver*

*internal mental screaming*

I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but this does actually help me as an author. I don't see anything wrong with other certain areas of kinks in the community, but maybe there are those who are absolutely bug-nuts over anything involving - or example - egg-laying. Also, what little I know about psychology says that sharing fears is an important part of the process, and aren't we all about the process here?

If I understand correctly, the question here is what terrifies us not only in films or any other work showing transformations but in real life? Am I correct?

Well for my part, what really terrifies me is when I see something just way too gory or even just something horribly painful. Probably due to the fact that for me, pain has always been a fear in itself and things only got worse since I had kids because I always fear that they might break an arm, a leg, or hurt themselves very badly.

So when I see a scene in a movie too gory and / or painful, I just cannot watch I literally don't feel good at all. I don't know if it's what you were expecting with this poll/question but it's my answer.

Oh and by the way, I'm actually french speaking in real life so if my English doesn't always seems right, it's because it's not my native language. And you're certainly not that old, because I too was already browsing the internet for all sorts of transformations pictures or stories and I still don't consider myself old! :-)

What terrifies me is the sound of balloons popping and the loud sound of thunder and fireworks.

It is cool, language is just the vessel people use to transmit meaning between one another. I'm partially fluent in Japanese and Chinese, but when I tried to learn Spanish in High School I found out the Romantics were beyond my ken (old-timey word for "understanding"). Your English is better than my Chinese, so bully to you!

Oh god I’d nearly forgotten those pictures, curse you ;), Those where very haunting.

It’s usually the extreme end of the spectrum that process here can take that terrify and stick with me, Faust BE/AE scene, that end to Society.

I think it’s more my mindset while watching or maybe the reactions of the people that do it for me. The Thing had body horror but maybe because the victims are already dead and taken over it never really bothered me as much as the melting baddy in RoboCop.

As for mindset I know I’m more shocked and unsettled when I start a clip thinking “Oh here’s some new thing to get my jollies off too” and then bam the lady from Corpses explodes. It’s not terribly graphic and I’ve seen worse that doesn’t bother me but ,I still shy away from that clip wherever I see it.

The thought of completely losing one's self to a transformation. Identity death, if you will.

Re: What Truly Terrifies You?

I don't like the term 'identity death' to be honest, because that implies that the person is dead at least on the inside. Yeah, I said it..I don't like that term in the slightest, especially when MC (mind change) exists. Inanimate transformations are what I consider the worst though, I know some consider it interesting and even describe it in a way that sort of romanticizes it but I cannot imagine someone would actually like being stuck as say as their mom's dress or a piece of cake or whatever.

I mean if it's turning into food isn't it basically vore only you're sort of alive to see yourself get eaten?

Also about the whole turning into something that doesn't move or talk thing like say a statue there's the whole uncanny valley thing. And also age progression or age changes in change scare me.

Bullying and rumors. People suddenly not talking to you and you have no idea why. People who go out of their way to believe horrible things, just so that they have an excuse for their inner sadiam.

Fear. There's nothing quite like it.

Re: What Truly Terrifies You?

I don't think I've come across any particular porn that has been traumatizing to look at. I would say anything that went into snuff or extreme body horror blood-and-guts territory would probably push the envelope. I love Leandro-SF's TF art; it's impossible to not notice he has some violent gladiator themed and history battlefield porn stuff with a lot of blood, but it doesn't bother me—I just don't particularly find it erotic.

Of course, anything live action that explicitly dealt with those subjects would be something I'd never want to see, but my general searching habits would probably never put me face-to-face with it either.
