Incredible Shrinking Woman Needs a Remake
 

Thanks to Tiedefender for the idea to start a thread on this separate from the Downsized thread.

With the lack of original ideas in Hollywood, I'd like to see a remake of The Incredible Shrinking Woman.

What actresses would you like to see as the titular character? Changes to the original story? Etc.

I'd look to cast Jenna Fischer, Emma Stone, Anna Faris, Mila Kunis, Laura Prepon, or Kate Beckinsale as Pat Kramer.

I'd change up the story where the first two acts have Pat slowly shrinking. Instead of a corporation lead by John Glover, Id have a female antagonist, played by Morena Baccarin.

Pat escapes the clutches of Baccarins character, and like in the original, seemingly shrinks away to nothing before falling into a chemical that restores her size.

Once Baccarin's character finds out Kramer didnt shrink into oblivion, she uses a more potent shrink chemical. This causes Pat to shrink out of her clothes in a matter of minutes to six inches tall. She crawls out of her clothes, covering herself with her panties only to be snatched by Baccarin.

Somehow, the tiny again Pat gives Baccarin the slip, grabs a giant syringe with shrinking solution, and jabs it into Baccarin's leg. Baccarin lets out an epic "Noooo!!!" as she shrinks into her clothes.

At this point, Im not sure if Id have Baccarin shrink to nothing, be stuck at six inches tall, or wind up smaller than Pat. Either way, with her out of the way, Pat finds the antidote, takes it, and bursts put of the makeshift togo she was wearing.

I like the prospect of a remake, and I am a fan of most of the actresses you listed, though I don't like seeing Baccarin as the villain, maybe Charles Theron as she's good at playing both good and bad. Emma stone is also my first choice for the lead with Rachel McAdams as a close second. Though to give us great shrinking process, it would likely need to be R rated and given more of a comedic overhaul. Though with the drama film 'downsizing' coming out, we're unlikely to get another shrinking movie for a while.

Some good ideas SDK. The actresses you listed sound good. Though personally I would like to see someone with bigger breast like Sofia Vergara shrinking. The story idea is good. Always did like the idea of shrunken woman covering up with their panties.

I pick Sofia Vergara as Pat Kramer. Katie McGrath can be the villain.

The head of the corporation is a nice guy being manipulated by Katie McGrath to develop a chemical shrinking compound. Her goal is to weaponize it and sell to both sides, and then do the same for the cure. The guy she is manipulating is a Wayne Zalinski type character.

Pat is exposed to the shrinking chemical in an accident. We watch as she shrinks for about 2/3 to 3/4 the film. Katie's character not wanting to wast this opportunity has her studied to make the cure and to improve the shrinking speed.

When she reaches four inches tall she starts sleeping in a padded bra. Then has to live in the lab with her husband watching over her. They try the cure in gas form, but she just shrinks out of sight on her bra.

But the cure worked and is restored. Only for McGrath's character to kidnap and shrink her again with the new formula. Pat shrinks to six inches tall in one minute, and has to use her panties as cover. They guy Katie manipulated saves pat and shrinks Katie.

Happy ending time. Pat is restored and reunited with her family. The shrinking formula sealed for public safety, but still studied to make cures. As punishment Katie has to remain three inches tall for two years or face charges of treason and she knows she can't win. We see her crying in her panties as the guys she manipulated takes care of her, because he still loves her. Before the credits we see he is holding an engagement ring. The inside has an inscription for Katie's character.

I'd like to see Charles Theron as the shrinking woman, she can play all the elements of the role, the embarrassment, the terror even the courage she'd need for when she grow very small.I've seen "Atomic Blond" she could kick a spders ass at any size;)

Nice ideas. Has my two favorite SW themes - shrinking of the clothes and the shrinker becoming the shrinkee.

As much as Id love to see Sofia as an SW, I agree with ibh that Chareze Theron has the better acting chops. Maybe create a supporting role for Vergara where she works for the villain and gets shrunk for disobeying an order.

I had trouble deciding which actress to use. I could list lost of women to shrink but not all of them are actresses. I did like Gemma Atkinson in Red Alert 3.

Then there is the question of shrinking. Should the shrinking be a constant rate? If it is then how fast? Or shrinking spurts? Is the amount random or a set amount each time? And do the spurts happen at random?

I'm sure people will have there favorite choice. Random shrinking spurts with random shrinking amount would have some funny and embarrassing scenes. Constant shrinking would be good for adapting to changing environments. And we get to see how she handles getting smaller every day.

Shes hot, but I want an actress who can sell the reactions.

Unlike the original, Id want to see short shrinking spurts. Maybe a few inches at a time. It would also present a good opportunity for the ISW to see herself shrink in the mirror and release she is shrinking. Also provides a chance for some cheap thrills (ie. a boob slip - if they go PG-13, she can quickly cover herself).

Yeah the reactions would have to be spot on. They would go to PG-13, so no complications during sex. Just so many options and I can't pick one. But the boobs slip is a nice idea. Perhaps if she has on a dress or skirt when she shrinks her panties slide off. I wonder if being shrunk would alter the smell of her panties? Since the fast shrinking at the end has her covering up with them.

Well, with multiple shrinking spurts, theres lots of options to explore. You could imply sex. She could tell one of her girlfriends that she wished she could time one of her shrink spurts just right. Maybe she needs to give a presentation at work and has a spurt, and struggles to keep her skirt from sliding off.

I would remove the garbage disposal scene, I don't think it's needed. The scene when they get drunk should have her wearing a sexier outfit. So when she is soaked in alcohol her nipples could show through. I know at the very end her shoe laces break implying that she is growing bigger. That could be removed. Or change it so her growth spurt bust open her shirt. Just to give the expansion fans a fun taste.

For a story, I'd like to see the new Pat Kramer have a shrink's visit, after having depression over the loss of a job. They prescribed her an anti-depression pill, which someone in the back sneakingly replaces the real pills with one that the scientists want her to test.

She dwindles on a daily basis. Three days into it, before going back to the shrink to figure out why is she shrinking, to the shrink's surprise of her height change. So, she was sent to a high-tech hospital to find out that she's shrinking due to a drug that she took, mistakenly.

She returns home, still shrinking after a recommendation of stopping the intake of the pills, she has to adjust her outfits and swap them for smaller people's clothes...even to kids and toddler clothes, while trying to maintain Motherhood...which becomes more of a challenge every stage of shrinking.

Doll-size becomes more fun, and want to see handhelds, and body exploration with her husband.

She becomes an internet sensation, and has to do viral videos of her vlogs, for a while.

But, becoming an internet sensation catches the eye of some neighbor, who wants her for him/herself, and cages her for fun, before the family finds out and rescues her from danger...and that neighbor was the one who switches her pills to test her. She was given the growth pill...but it looks too big for her even fit in her mouth, and has to learn to adapt to her new size, cause her internet fandom is bringing her the budget she needs to survive the living.

You can replace neighbor for someone else, but this might work in a PG-13 setting.

Sounds like a good idea. I think if possible doing concept pics of Charlize Theron shrank out of her clothes, and wearing a mini bra, and skirt via poses.

Interesting concept of it being pernamemt. You could even have a sequel that explores the perils of long term shrinking (ie a possibly straying husband who misses the touch of a full grown woman, Pat missing the freedom of her old life, etc)

Maybe for a difference Patricia which is similar to Pat could work at the corporation or is a journalist undercover due to some illegal practices at the Corporation, and finds the illegal acts which is the shrinking the world, and before she could escape she gets caught by the antagonist, and gets shrunk out of her clothes as they dropped to the floor.

She could be an assistant to the CEO, who stumbles upon the shrinking plan when organizing files.

Or an IT person who accidentally finds the plan when installing an update on the CEO's desktop.

That works a assistant of the CEO so possible looks for Patricia are Charlize Theron, Alexandra Breckenidge who else.

The one scene I would want to see done is the Doll scene, where she falls a sleep in the lap of the guy Doll and wakes up the next morning about half it's size. That's my favorite scene in that movie;)

Yes, yes, YES! Actually, the whole sequence from the dinner scene where she gets doused with champagne (I really like the doll dress she wears there, but it's mostly hidden by her little table), and the scene where she has to climb the bed (gotta love a SW climbing everyday things, but in our imagined remake with Charlize, she should be wearing slinkier lingerie), and then to that dollhouse scene. Going to bed around 12" tall and waking up 6" would be horrifying. I wish the had shown us just a little bit more after she woke up--like a squeaky blood-curdling scream.

The one thing I'd change about the doll size is Id have her wake up while shrinking. She falls asleep at 12" tall, and wakes up maybe 7-8" tall, and keeps shrinking to 6".

Yes this permanent shrinking is interesting, but I have problems with permanent shrinking. I would rather see the husband and wife struggle with her at doll size, and ultimately stay together.

I was thinking about this doll scene too in my last post. Since you both like it how about changing the doll to be anatomically correct? As it would be the right size for her. Even if the husband still took care of her sexually, she would still miss having normal sex. So it could be a sex doll for her.

I wouldn't want the doll to be anatomically correct. That would be unrealistic for a child's toy. And I highly doubt a mainstream ISW remake would ever introduce a sex doll. But if anyone wants to write an ISW remake for us, that's fine.

Well it was just a thought. Just trying to throw out ideas. Maybe I should stick to technical stuff.

I would like to see more practical effects vs CGI. Furniture shouldn't be to much of a problem. But trying to make over sized clothes she shrinks into may pose some trouble. Even at doll size wearing a simple makeshift dress could prove a challenge. Every thread and stitch would need to be proportionally larger. Hard to do and make it look real. If done right the CGI could really add to the movie.

Btw I mention some differences with Patricia as well, and its not hard with the oversize clothes look at the 2010 Alice for example when she is shrunk she makes a dress out of the oversize dress that pools on the floor, and its real fabric.

I like Patricia working at the corporation as just a newbie, when she stumbles across a meeting about some top secret project, just to fumble her way in to reluctantly become the test subject.

I don't know if they should have a dog in the remake. I only remember one scene with the dog to begin with, and that was when it chased Pat.

Should Pat still be a mother in the remake with young children?

I wouldn't mind if Cassandra Peterson made a cameo in the movie. She could be Pat's mother visiting her in a shrunken state. When Pat is about six inches tall. Cassandra could be there to comfort Pat and give helpful words of wisdom. Pat's mother would be full of optimism to keep the movie tone light hearted. Of-course Cassandra Peterson is known for her breasts, so I imagine either a boob joke or two. Maybe some nice perspective shots of Pat and Cassandra's breasts. Really sell how small Pat is compared to her mother. Could even do a POV shot.

That's about all I got. Not sure what else I can add.

Either Patricia could be single with none or is single, but with a preteen or teen daughter. As for cameo if possible Lily Tomlin could portray Patricia's mother.

Well I wouldn't want her to be a single mother. Better to portray a husband and wife. At least I think showing a marriage surviving tough trials and the couple growing closer to each other with a stronger bond sends a better message.

I would rather see Lily Tomlin as the true mastermind behind the shrinking. Testing it on people as random test subjects. Getting all the funding she needs. Only to discover she her self was shrunk. Forced people to pay attention so she could get a cure. Then when she is restored, try to take over the world. She could start at any size you want.

But that is like, just my opinion man.

I think it would make sense if Lily portray her mother since she was the original Pat Kramer. Well with the couple they could still be together, and/or going to tough times as for them having a teen daughter. In the original Pat had 2 kids who are children that the remake could remove the son, and make the daughter older who could makeshift her mom's clothes to fit her size till she shrinks again kinda like she is taking a class on fashion. Like if she is appearing on tv/podcast/streaming, and she shrinks again her daughter would quickly fix the dress to fit her in time.

A teen kid most likely would work better. Perhaps Cassandra Peterson could be Judith. Then Judith can be shrunk to three inches tall with out further shrinking. Every one could for get she was shrunk and trapped in the lab till the end of the movie. And when they find her she is entertaining the lab boys with a sexy dance wearing a sexy bunny girl costume. To everyone's shock she likes it.

While Charlize Theron is a option what do you think of Alexandra Breckenridge as Patricia? If you don't who she is she was in Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story, True Blood, American Horror Story Murder House/Coven, and The Walking Dead.

If they did make an R version I would want a solid story. Some good talent. And a special effects budget of a Star Wars movie. But the R rating should only be for sexual content.

What if she slips and falls into the garbage, instead of the disposal of the sink? Creates equal challenges of her trying to escape, while baring the stench of what's rotten that intensified her smell.

Speaking of which, would it be better to see her voice pitched higher at every shrinking stage, while everything that she smells, feels, and tastes intensified? Like to the point where everyone's voice that talks to her is deep and loud, making her have to cover her ears...adding some scientific logic into the movie, in other words.

You could do the voice pitch thing. I have know idea how the other senses would change. I wouldn't bring to much scientific logic to the movie. We all know the problems with shrinking.

What if the villain does a mass shrink test during the time Pat is supposed to have shrunk to death? She could do it by luring couples to the lab to shrink them. Say a dozen people, men and women get shrunk to a manageable six inches tall. That's when Pat comes back to save them to be shrunk again.

Only Pat ends up three inches tall do to unstable effects of the previous shrinking. Could be a good scene watching Pat wrap her self in her panties as the villain picks her up. Could do a POV of the inside of her bra being lifted off of Pat.

While the dozen people are restored at the end Pat is not. Pat has to slowly grow back to her normal size, but could take years.

Or if possible she could go to the room of her job before she gets shrunk again emails the shrinking plans to the U.S government before her villainous boss catches & shrinks her after she successfully emails it.

Im not sure if I mentioned her before, but if ISW would still be a comedy, I think Anna Faris would be a great choice. She's beautiful and funny. And I think she's a good enough actress to pull off the reactions to shrinking.

I don't remember it being a comedy. I wouldn't suggest a dark comedy, they can be even more hit or miss than most movies.

But if the movie is a comedy then they need a great comedy writer. However comedy is subjective. So it may need to be a comedy like the original Ghostbusters.

It wasnt particularly funny, but I think it was meant to be a albeit dark comedy.

Theres potential for comedy there.

I think dialog is key too.

"Every time I have one of these shrink attacks, I have to get a new wardrobe. Do you have any idea how tough it is to get a bra when you're three feet tall? My tits may look smalker, but they're still the same size to me."

Just because I like big boobs I want to see Lana Kendrick work for the villain. Work as the maid and kidnap Pat when she is small enough. And smuggle her between her breasts.

Yeah that lats part is not important. I just thought it would be awesome to see.:)
