The rival most likely would be female. It just makes more sense.
Another student of the master's, the rival wasn't chosen to be taught as well as Subi was. (even if Subi did not learn too well) And when Subi just decided to leave, that was the last straw.
Your idea is pretty good as well. I do not know if it will be a mission or revenge/grudge.
I will have to think up some character designs.
