I've been racking my brains to think of the title of a story I read some years ago, but it's absolutely escaping me and it doesn't seem to be on my hard drive either.

The plot involves a large crew of colonial marine types (all male) who crash land on an alien planet and are forced to settle there. Soon however, some of them start disappearing, despite the planet being uninhabited. Then a foraging party finds a beautiful young girl nearby - who turns out to be the first of the disappeared men.

Eventually they work out that any group of them will be abducted and transformed until their genders reach a 50/50 ratio. The story is written from the perspective of the captain, who tries to keep military discipline together as his macho marines begin losing their identities and their masculinity. Eventually, of course, he himself becomes a 'victim'.

I've tried searching a couple of archives, but with just the plot to go on it's a bit hard to pinpoint. Ring any bells with anyone?
