I believe each (most, if not all) Marvel comic book exists in it's own separate universe most of the time. Only in rare occasions do the books mingle, and it becomes a huge deal when it happens. (Age of Apocalypse, World War Hulk, Civil War, Secret Invasion) Otherwise they tend to remain isolated in their own pocket universes not affecting each other in any significant way and sometimes a single character (Wolverine) will exist in many of them at the same time, simultaneously taking part in multiple stories and being part of multiple teams.
In short, Marvel continuity is pretty much a huge clusterfuck.
