Ah yes, being a Blue Mage myself, I definitely understand how the first picture works. The second one, not so much, but that's probably just the imagination of the artist.
What's happening is that the Blue Mage is turning into this type of monster:

It basically happens whenever a Blue Mage loses control of their powers and mind.
Now, how she infected the Red Mage so that she'd start transforming the same way, I wish I knew *grin*
