Re: Michael Crichton dies at 66
God, when I first heard this it completely ruined my day. He was one of the few authors that was consistently good, no matter the subject he was writing on. He had a wonderful way of creating compelling characters, and his stories were always close enough to actual science to be believable, with the exception of Timeline. He was a master of balancing character development, scientific bonafides, and pacing to create engaging sci-fi thrillers that moved by at a brisk pace and left you wanting more.
I'm currently reading Next, and I'm deeply saddened that this will be the last time I will be able to read a new story by this terrific author.
