Prophet_Tenebrae: I'm willing to bet it was widely distributed on the piracy channels, convincing people to sign up for the club. Since it was one of the first comics the club produced, people felt attached to seeing it through, rationalizing that it was the reason they'd joined in the first place. This is speculation, of course, but I bet subscription rates jumped when it first came out.
