Actually, two people transforming into a squirrel and a stoat would be quite effective. Indeed, there's a phrase from a "cooling off" spell (one that makes two people not love each other) in the Cheremis culture (I think - it might be another Finno-Ugric culture) which is something like "May [person 1] and [person 2] live together like a stoat and a squirrel sharing a house." In other words, may they be tearing at one another's throats.

In fact, that might well be a good basis for a story. Jealous person sees two lovers, and speaks this part of the spell. Whether they mean for it to cause a TF or just to cause them to break up, you decide.
Plus, this might give an opportunity to draw some traditional clothing for the culture! I for one think it sounds neat. If you're interested, I can send you the poem, and I can check exactly which culture it's from.
