Re: Happy Inauguration Day!
The argument Obama won the presidency because the people who voted for him are easily swayed (by the colour of his skin in particular) is a popular one amongst sore Republicans. I've heard people voted for him because he's good looking, because he fooled them with his beautiful public speaking, because he has a Facebook page, because people want to convince themselves they're not racist, because of the media bias, blah blah blah. I don't buy it. I think Obama warranted this win. He ran a strong, clean campaign. McCain stumbled, particularly near the end, and didn't represent what most American people want to see in the next four years.
I'm happy for the United States today and I'm sad for the Obamas. I fear, after four years of trying to clean up the mess he's inherited, Obama will be blamed for that mess or for not having improved things for the better quickly enough. I hope the American people can be realistic and patient with Obama. He can only do so much in four years. Also, I really don't want to see Sarah Palin near the Oval Office four years from now.
