The 1993 "Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman" film was pretty much about the emancipation of a woman who was very much controlled by both her husband and father - with her growth in height being a very literal metaphor. The original one... I'm not so sure but it's hard to say that giant women aren't clearly empowered.
Certainly, it's far more likely to be played for laughs or just straight. There ARE some exceptions. How they got the 90s She-Hulk TF past the censors when she's a mere whit away from a screaming orgasmic epiphany. At one point, Giganta gets some amusing sleaze from Shade in the Justice League cartoon... but yes, mainstream appearances are not to be expected to be for our sexual gratification... deliberately, at least.
I've heard more than a few people say that they were scared by stuff like the Incredible Hulk's transformation etc. That's all it takes, really.
