It never ceases to amaze me how much of an ass certain people can be when describing non-professional artistry/writing that they get for free. I agree with your points regarding the lack of background art and some of the problems with the hair and characterizations. However, you could have stated this much less smugly and without coming off as a total ass. By all means please link to your work so I can do the same to you...I'm sure you would like someone to tear down your work brutally too without offering constructive criticism.
