The only thing...I don't know how deep we want to go into writing philosophy here. But I tend to withhold hard numbers on height...5'5", 5'9", etc. I'd rather give proportions, or something like "he guessed she was just a little shy of six feet tall." Because the characters aren't walking around with tape measures, heh.
And yet I know that when I read I like to know how big the girl is. So I don't know what the take away is.

I ran into that same problem with my last story. I typically held off on numbers or allowed her to estimate until she actually had a means to measure herself.
Occasionally, however, the narrator would clue us in.
