W-well...
Yu Yu Hakusho didn't exactly follow the usual shonen route, although it drags a little at the start. You can see him actually improving throughout the show, without the use of lengthy training montages, filler episodes, or distinctive "power levels", as used in most shonen anime.
Also, there's at least a LITTLE plot development every episode, and once you get beyond the first part where he's becoming a spirit detective, it really picks up.

is no "other half" of Elfen Lied. The anime ends right around where the manga does, but it leaves out a distinctive ending, which you could just google, read, or see my quick spoiler on the first page for.
