I think it would be nice, at least for the first several volumes. Everyone would be oblivious to the fact that you were your altar ego. Your parents would be insane but accepting (my parents are insane and would prefer that I was gay. They are kind of accepting though). Your altar ego would be more popular than you and you would be able to pass despite your base appearance.

The only problem would be the bizzare love triangles that include both you and your altar ego.
