I'm a long time lurker myself.

A quick way to solve the click, open and save problem is to use "linky". It's an extension for firefox. Just go to the extension site and search for it. I've used it forever and it saves so much time on sites like this and sites like deviantart.

Also, tab mix plus works great too so you can have multiple tab rows of many opened pictures.
