Actually, do not forget a little dust up called WW1 and its role in the mess. Europe was in shambles. Not much of an overseas market there and Asia was still, pretty much off the grid except as a place for the wealthy to go play.

Folks bought stock on huge lines of credit with no real way to pay for them (Sound oddly familiar?) and when the bills came due, well, not much to do but shrug and say "SOOOOOWWWWWEEEEE". Again, sound familiar?

Yes, FDR gave us the most EPIC Ponzi scheme in American history which is now about to go bust. Yes FDR closed the banks, instituted the FDIC and we see how that has worked out as thugs and race hustlers demand banks give loans to folks who have no means or intentions of paying them back. Not trying to be mean, just realistic.

Yes, I rather like Truman to be frank and would have voted for him in a heartbeat.

As for WW2, we (The Allies) came bloody close to blowing that and only Hitler's raving lunacy saved the day when he opened a two front war with Stalin and failed to have a clue on D-Day. It could, SO EASILY, have gone the other way. I would also point out that both an amazing array of military leaders (With the exception of Dugout Douglass Macarthur of course, may he rot) and the indomitable fighting spirit of the American forces along with the wild innovations of American industry and research that won that war.
