Running Windows Vista....AKA Windows MEH!

I was running a malware scan yesterday and it was taking a very long time. So I disconnected my ethernet cord, and let it run. My wireless was off. And I woke up to see that Windows had installed updates and had rebooted, killing my malware scanner and everything. OHNOES!

Is Windows haunted?

HOW WAS IT ABLE TO UPDATE WHEN I WAS DISCONNECTED?
