Vista will sneak in updates and not install them right away, but when you reboot. There were times a "Windows has installed updates and needs to reboot" (Will reboot in 5 mins unless you tell it no) window pops up in the corner when Im playing a game and the system didnt show me. Win7 is a *LITTLE* better about it, at least it asks by default.
