Reviving this thread to follow up: another point in the BESC's favor is that, when you attempt to cancel a BESC membership, it actually gets canceled.
The
first problem with the Expansion Comics cancellation procedure is that they want your account password sent to them in plain text.
Aside from that, though: their only point of contact is a web form, which I have attempted to use several times to cancel, and all I get back is an automated reply saying a human response will be coming in 24-48 hours. I've never gotten the human response; responding to the email address from which the automated reply emanates only yields an identical automated reply.
So I'm filing a dispute with my credit card. Only problem is, since I had to attempt to cancel via a web form, I don't have a copy of an outgoing email to "prove" that I shouldn't have been charged after a certain date; I only have the generic automated reply.
I really hope this doesn't get to the point where the bank needs to call me for more information about the dispute, and I have to discuss my fetishes with someone on the phone.
