This is true, but if you get a warranty on a refurbished model then you are doin fine. They tend to come with a year. I would just go and buy one from CostCo. They tend to have a good selection and a really bitching return policy.
Mostly it is just know what you want, or need. Then look around for what is out there. There are many deals to be had on this "interwebs" but just like in real life, if it looks to good to be true it probably is. Also as for Ebay if you look around you will figure out who is real and who isn't. Just think of it like a Farmers market the more legit they look and the happier the people are around it then the better odds it is a good place.
