Ah yes, such recognition is indeed a mixed blessing... While I cannot speak from experience, I would try not to think of people as "requesting", which subtly implies some kind of obligation (and thus stress), but rather think of them as "suggesting ideas for you next work, whenever that happens to be". If you happen to want to depict someone's "idea", then you can go ahead and do that. Use words like suggestion, idea, thought, etc., while completely avoiding the nasty R-word.
What I'm thinking is that as long as you never do a request, people will think that you just don't do them, and they won't bother trying to make requests.
