@Katt - No, the two game's characters, male and female, are completely unrelated. In the first game, the issue is completely the girl's problem (her name escapes me). She falls ill with some crazy disease or genetic condition or another and needs to resort to crazy, demented Dr. Sakaki and his revolutionary body modification techniques to survive her illness, submitting to his madness until he releases her. This really doesn't have much to do with her being cured, which doesn't seem much of a problem for Doc Sakaki, but rather till his demented SCIENCE/insanity is piqued. In the few ends where he DOES release her and she doesn't end up some completely body and mind destroyed freak for his madness, her mind and body are usually too destroyed to function in society, much less get back to a happy life with her boyfriend. The ONE ending that this happy situation does happen, she drowns him to death by accident.

The SW/beetle scene is here in the second game with a different girl (Noa) and HER boyfriend. In this game, the guy gets into an accident which injured him terribly, but he has some bizarre genetic/blood condition with unstable/mutatable/whatever characteristics. He/his family is fine with it, but others, not so much. If Noa doesn't give him a transfusion and otherwise help THIS game's crazy doctor right away, then her beau will die, and if she DOES help, she'll be infected with his DNA or something. She does, and then to survive and escape the condition herself needs to allow the Dr. to make her into his illegal experiment subject to be modified till she can 'survive' on her own, which really means till the doctor's satisfied, same as the first game.
