Ah, that old illusion.
(I'll clear that up a bit.)
At times, when making a drawing and you run out of room on the paper, the mind subconsciously tries to cram as much as possible into what's left on the paper.
The remedy:
Place another sheet of paper under the one you're drawing on to extend the work space. Then continue the drawing so it flows over to the extended paper underneath.
Remove the paper that was placed under the original, and you should have a drawing that was unaffected by that "subconsious cramming" illusion.
Keep working on that and you'll eventually not have to use that "extra" paper anymore.
