Or take the cheap & easy route and install VLC player:

There is no need for community codec crap packs.
Uhm... but those all run off the Combined Community Codec Pack, and its more work to install all 3 of those than the auto-install the CCCP has... VLC + CCCP runs everything I can think of... No need to switch back and forth like you're suggesting, to find a player that works on something.
