Oh Good God, I hate,
hate, hate this argument. I was in a poetry class some time back, and in one session, some girl was bitching out our professor for trying to give her advice, basically citing this as the reason; I mean it's not like the guy
spent years upon years studying the ins and out of poetry so as to give more informed critique on the subject or anything.
Of course, the kicker is what she finished it off with: "If Oprah went and wrote some poetry like this, you wouldn't be criticizing her about it, would you?" Took every fiber of my being not to yell out "Yes I
fucking would!"
Yes, art is largely subjective, and a number of decisions are best left up to the artist. However, skill is
also a factor, and I, personally, am completely opposed to artists remaining stagnant because they're not willing to take advice. Even worse in this case, since Opaigamer
wants advice.
