Re: Pulse
Let's see:
I'm a guy.
I ran the Stone of Adventure between 2000 and 2010. I made the Pulse, Final Fantasy and My Big Life comics. I made PeEVEed, and the Adept with (co-writer) Wolfman1066.
We had a number of hosts, but they were free for us. "Snoopy" was our host for most of that time.
I was a chronic comic-starter, some of the series I either had lost interest in, or just maybe didn't like them enough to follow through with my sometimes very lengthy plans. I was starting to wonder if I'd ever finish all of them. Some were so old that they almost just needed to start over, due to at least inexperience they were sloppy stories.
It was a big site that required a lot of time to fix things, and everything was set up to be as reliable as possible, not always easy to add new content.
We had used Snoopy's space for years, and when there was a big server problem in 2009 I regretted that he was having to spend a lot of energy on it for us. He used the webspace himself also, but I felt like we were complicating it for him.
Intentionally and accidently the comics were getting more and more adult. And also I was doing all of these long comics that had BE, and the women were getting more and more unreasonable, sometimes far beyond my original plans. I felt like I had to always say no or pour cold water on reader's expectations or ideas, because I had to consider what was plausible when there was years of comics ahead, and/or what was too adult. I felt like I needed to reset.
I've always been more of a means-to-an-ends kind of BE guy. More like using BE to get to a result, than something continuous where it keeps going and going for it's own sake until they can't move or more. A lot of times I had a goal in mind but make the BE too available, or made the comics too long. In long comics BE and a story can conflict if the character needs to be active (like Pulse being a superhero). It ads a lot of complications, and pacing issues not in other kinds of comics.
I had this site for ten years, mostly with comics of a BE theme, and I wanted to do something different. I felt like there was a lot of things that I had wanted to do. I wanted to have a comic on a free comic host (once the only option for most people), I wanted to have one comic (something that wasn't true for me since 1999), and I wanted to have a simple site. I had experimented with those things with the Adept, but at the time felt like I needed to stay focused to the big (and higher traffic) SOA site if it existed.
I'm not sure if I'd do more fan-comics. There are a lot of people who like them, but you also get a lot of grief from fans who think you are perverting the series they like.
About the other old comics, it's not impossible, but I really can't guess one way or another. I kept my plans for My Big Life, although I felt like most would rather have her growing than big, which was sort of the opposite of what I expected. PeEVEed I would only do if Wolf agreed, and I would suggest starting over (at least to make it seem more like Japan).
