I think every super hero show has had at least one episode with brainwashed heroes (if you want a progenitor then Super Friends' Dracula episode probably pre-dates everything else); it kind of goes with the genre. It was just a crap shoot whether or not a female character would get picked for the episode, and it would be uncommon only because the law of averages doesn't favor the small female casts those shows would have.
I'd be interested if there's been noticeable trends in the popularity of brainwashing vs mind control. Brainwashing is kind of an inherently silly concept invented by hollywood, like amnesia, so I wonder if it's waned in use over the years in lieu of more "realistic" approaches.
