Well, it's been like two and a half months, while I've been doing other things, but... guess who's back?


Chapter 30

The sorceress sat alone, in a brightly lit part of her study. After finishing the notes she was scrawling, she stuck them in the folder with the rest. Said folder, she noticed, was getting quite fat. She really should make them into a proper book sometime, she thought. Carline stood up and set the folder on a shelf, alongside a few others. After a moment of consideration, she moved it over one to the left. Carline nodded with approval, and sat down. She grabbed her pencil again, and went to write, but before she did, she had a thought.


Carline sat up straight, and called out, magically amplifying her voice to be heard throughout the mansion. ?Oh, Tuicia? Could you come here for me?? She said, before resuming her writing. As she did, her mind drifted away from the spell she was recording notes on. It had been a few weeks since Hakira was exposed, and since Gelly was taken down by them and taken in by Aphira. Unfortunately, Allie?s wounds had proven unhealable by her power, or that of the hospital she?d been taken to. Fortunately, Cecily didn?t care about Allie?s disfigurements, and stayed faithfully at her side. The two were wonderful together, the two sweet servants of hers. And speaking of sweet servants?


After a good five minutes, Tuicia appeared in the doorway. ?Oui, ma Madame? You called for moi?? Carline turned to the Frenchwoman, and just looked at her for a while. ?Is? is somezing ze matter, Madame?? Tuicia questioned. ?No, no? I?m just admiring your beauty, is all.? Praeli walked into the large, empty, open room. It was dusty, and had a smell of? old, as though it hadn?t been used in some time. She waved her hand through the air, coughing from the dust. ?Ugh? would it kill you to clean this place every now and then?? She said, to no one in particular. ?Fine,? came a reply, from no visible source. In a wave of bright magic, the entire place was purged of its visible age, all the cobwebs and various other filth completely rid of. The white marble floor and walls reflected brilliantly, and the gold lay out intricate designs throughout. At the other end of the room sat a large throne, it composed of the same, but in a pitch black shade, and the precious metal a deep red. The woman sitting in it looked bored, her chin resting on her hand. Her short, deep blue hair had a few strands hung to the side of her face, and her silky purple gloves were of a rich color themselves, stretching to her upper arms. Her actual attire consisted of a simple, light, pale green dress, worn over a black, slightly longer one.


Praeli looked up at the woman. ?Knowing you, and given the state of the place, you probably haven?t moved in all this time, have you?? She said. The woman ignored her question. ?You,? She said, in a smooth, womanly voice. ?It has been a while.? Praeli rolled her eyes. ?You don?t say. What?s up?? The woman replied by raising her other arm, which produced an illusionary vision. ?I need you again. I know it?s been a while since I?ve called on you, but the tide?s been? too far from my favor lately. I?d very much like another recruit.? Praeli nodded. ?Alright then. Izzat why I?m all like-? ?Yes. That?s exactly why. And besides, I?ve a side mission for you while you?re doing this.? ?Ruin her?? Praeli proposed. The woman laughed, amused by the suggestion. ?Yes! Exactly that. You?ve learned from me too well.? ?Alright, so what am I doing primarily then?? In response, the vision came into clearer focus, revealing a prison cell with a woman sitting in it. ?Her. I need her on my side. And I need you to go and bring her to me.? Praeli squinted at the vision, trying to recognize it. ?I? I can?t tell who it is??


The woman closed her hand, and the vision dispelled. ?She?s an old acquaintance of yours; don?t you remember her?? She asked. Praeli?s eyes lit up. ?Ah. I know the bitch.? ?Good. Can I trust that you will have her to me shortly?? Praeli popped her shoulder. ??course. Ain?t nothing they can throw at me that?d stop me!? She boasted. ?Good.? The woman repeated. Now, off with you. Transportation to their base shall be provided for you. Getting back is up to you, though. With her in tow, I?m sure you?ll manage.? Praeli nodded impatiently. ?Right, right, right! Can I get going, then? You wanted her stupid ass here, and you?re just delaying me now!?


The woman sighed at her impatience. ?Please? to one like me, your time is nothing. I?d hardly notice the difference between if you should take a day or a month.? ?And as far as ruining her? do I get free rein?? ?Of course. However you should determine the best way to be.? ?Hahaa, fuckin? sweet.? She turned to leave. ?I?ll have her here? ehh, sometime.? ?Take your time if need be. The only limiting factor here is her years.?


Praeli left, leaving the elder sorceress alone in the room. She?d not moved but for her arm the entire time, and she?d little intention of moving again until the heroine?s return. Hopefully taking that sorceress to her side would give her the edge she?d need to take the lead again. This war would end in her favor. The other three be damned; this war would end in her favor.
