Somnia

Greetings, friends!

Attached is another of my entries into the monthly contest at Rachel's, titled "Somnia".

Since I would not want to bore you with standard fare, I decided to experiment. So this entry is, well, different.

Let's start with the subject. The theme of the contest (candy) felt like a good fit for a "The Matrix" caption: take the scene where Morpheus offers Neo a choice of taking the red or the blue pill, replace the pills with candy and Morpheus with a female equivalent, adjust the dialog, bake on medium and see what comes out of it.

The "female equivalent to Morpheus" part needed some mythology research. The "original" Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams, was the leader of the Oneiroi, or, as the Romans referred to them, the Somnia. Since "Somnia" sounds like a suitable female name, I went with it.

The dialog (see here), I felt, presented an interesting opportunity. Some trimming made it into a monolog that was close to what I wanted to achieve. I wanted to try the minimalist approach: other than cutting parts and substituting "candy" for "pill", I added only four words (well, three and a contraction, if you feel picky), which I believe were enough to get the desired effect.

And if that is not ambitious enough, here's the kicker: there is no actual transformation in this caption, only a set-up that may (or may not) result in one.

Now, I do understand that many of you may not like it, but still I find it better than repeating the same thing every time. Variety is the spice of life!

Peace,
Lurker.
