I think this film was great because it is the opposite of Alice in Wonderland. It keeps to the spirit of Frank Baum's work rather than trashing it for a Narnia/Lord of the Rings rip off that clashes with the tone, like they did with Alice. The Alice stories are never about a traditional heroes journey, where Oz is very much that, in each story a hero has to find their way, be it Dorthy, Tip becoming Princess Ozma, or in this case, Oz deciding to use what he knows to try and stop the witches.
It's a lot of fun, has great characters, and while it has pacing issues, so does the original Wizard of Oz.
if you go in looking for some TF hotness, I have no idea what to tell you.
