Transformation artwork has a rich and varied history. It is not merely a fetish, which, unfortunately, is all that many of these newcomers think. It is an mode of deconstructing the unstable binary between human and animal. It is a rejection of humanism and anthropocentric viewpoints. It is a subculture, and, as such, sexuality and eroticism is only one dimension out of many manifestations. This isn't to say that the sexuality and eroticism of transformation artwork isn't important. It is very important with regard to exposing the hypocritical discomforts with the body that our highly cerebral and mind-biased civilization has. It forces humans to confront their animal attributes, which they would rather ignore while still enjoying their outputs. In a sense, it is a retaliation against lingering Victorian sentiment in our society.
