I'm thinking of writing a submission for a new authors contest I just found out about. Trying to pick one out of my two ideas.

1) Fantasy novel: A man from our world accidentally travels to a fantastic land where magic is used the way we use technology. There, he finds himself caught up in a rebellion against an emperor trying to bring the world under his control.

2) Sci-fi novel: People around the world are randomly given superpowers and forced to fight each other; winners claim the powers from their fallen foes. One of these special people must try to survive long enough to find out how and why they got their abilities.
