Okay, well, just trying to keep what could be the last archive from vanishing - don't junk the drive just yet. If you can find someone with a cleanroom and experience recovering data, assuming the system was off when it dropped (that is, making a head crash less likely), the drive platters could be swapped into a good drive. Freezing may also work for that one last spin; you'd want an anti-static bag to seal it in.
Just some ideas as a last resort, should nobody else respond.
