That is actually a good point.
Lots of these stories are great stories, but translating them over to comic form might not be practical. The current lead seems to be Touching the Moon, which is great BTW, but Touching the Moon is a really LONG story.
Think about how long the comic version of that would have to be? I realize commissions are not cheap anyway, but that seems pretty extremely expensive.
Maybe we should redefine the scope of the contest to shorter stories, more easily turned into comic books?
Or maybe the end result could be providing illustrations for the stories, instead of full comic format. Art of key scenes and characters, the transformations, and so on put into a PDF with the text of the story. That might be a lot cheaper, and the best of both worlds. For the price of one comic you could probably illustrate 2-3 stories in this way.
Just some food for thought.
