I'm actually pretty surprised by how strong your reaction is. You're kind of assuming a lot by deciding in advance how gullible "we all" are, aren't you?
I mean -- it's true that charlatans exist, but it's also true that the type of person who will be taken in by them is not the type of person who is going to listen to you. I think anyone with half a brain is going to see through the buzzwords and judge the author on his own merits, and I think that you can generally trust that *most* people will use their common sense.
If the person or the reward structure or whatever is truly as bad as you say it is, then won't people just not buy in?
