@wandering_spirit, I was interested in that concept at first and the way you mentioned it seemed like a good setup. But after reading it, I'm not sure if the actually a reason to become one is really that unique?
Well you pretty much describe it as the main character being desperate, bitter and lonely and wanting an out through that new persona, somehow. Of course you address through the character's original self that it's not a perfect desirable fix but, isn't it still a little convenient? It doesn't necessarily even meet half-way.
I fear to compare it to that one saga of the Wotch where the only reason the boys are given to stay cheerleaders/asian schoolgirls is "They're so much perkier and happier that way." and it comes off as a little, well contrived for lack of a better word.
