Steven is learning to fuse, a power of the Crystal Gems. In previous episodes, Amethyst, Garnet, and Pearl had shown their fusions. Each fusion is typified by not just a literal combination of features of the fused gems (two arms, four eyes, etc), but a colossal increase in size. One episode is even named Giant Woman. In this episode, Steven isn't having any success with learning the dance moves to fuse. Clear parallel to Dragonball Z -- the anime has multiple shout-outs to video game and anime tropes. While dancing with his sorta-girlfriend Connie, who has an issue with people seeing her dance, Steven accidentally triggers his fusion powers. Whoever wrote or animated this gives strong evidence that there is a fetishist on staff. Stevonnie is rendered in more realistic / human proportions and detailed than other characters in the show. The first thing she does is become confused about how small Steven's sandal is to her foot. After a prolonged examination of her new dimensions, Steveonnie debuts as a tall androgynous mixture of Steven and Connie. The plotline kicks in at 3:37 and lasts through the episode as Steveonnie has fun with her new form. Aside from her increased height, nothing else fetishy happens.
