I knew a guy in college who didn't know what "Smart" meant. He seemed to confuse smart/dumb with good/evil, as in Hitler invaded poland, boy was that dumb! Another guy (from Brasil) thought that reindeer were make believe! My other friends explained to him that they don't actually fly and pull a sleigh, but otherwise they are a real animal.
I wonder if knowledge is like paint. It can be spread around, but you can always miss a spot, and have that one person who managed to miss the one bit of data that everyone else knows. Given all the information that it is assumed that "everyone knows" one can imagine that everyone might have little gaps like this. How would you know?
