I like the idea. When I think of creepy psychiatric hospitals on the eastern seaboard, I think of Lovecraft. I say, go with some sort of carnivorous tentacly horror.

In my mind, I'm kind of imagining something similar to a felhound from the Warcraft series or a displacer beast from D&D..
