I can be mistaken, but from the comic Doreen seems to secretly wish to have a boyfriend.
She also didn't fantasized about her other friends, if they had boyfriends.
That's what made me puzzled.
Maybe she also imagined how it would be to be Megan who makes out with John, for in the end he seems to the object of her desire.
